My son is very interested in home designing and landscaping (he watches Extreme Makeover religiously, and tries to catch all the home design/do-it-yourself how-to shows as well). So, to encourage this, I am looking for a package for Linux that he can use to design rooms, layouts, furniture, etc., as well as move objects (like furniture) around. Something like an architectural design program, but simple enough he can figure out and use. If anyone has any suggestions of where to look or what to try, I am all ears.

I think ikea has some easy to use software … though it’s for win32 platform. Not sure if it’s what you are looking for & if it’s worth put on linux machine under wine

Thanks for the tip, chochi. I tend to stay away from wine (more of a beer guy myself, haha), but it looks interesting – I may try it out later.
