A friend of mine has started off with Ubuntu as his preferred distro. He is relatively new to Linux, and really seems to enjoy it. He just sent me an e-mail, which I will paste in the relevant part detailing the problem and his solution. Hope this helps someone out!
“I had a sudden problem with my keyboard this afternoon. All of a sudden it stopped working in kde after I logged in. At the system log in prompt the keyboard works fine. Rebooting did not solve the problem. Power off waiting a few hours did not solve the problem but I was more relaxed after. I googled to find a solution. I was able to log in to gnome and use google to find the solution. The solution was to modify a kde config file. After I used vi and modified the file the keyboard started working again under kde.
Solution: cd under your home directory to /.kde/share/config and modify the file kaccessrc. Change the line: SlowKeys=true to SlowKeys=false.
That’s all it was but without google I would be reaching for the cd to rebuild a box (or forever use gnome).”
Again, hope this is useful to someone out there.
